When Enrique mentioned a family recipe book—one of those with stains revealing countless hours in the kitchen—we immediately wanted to meet the person behind those recipes. Pilar, his mother, cooks—as she says— because she loves eating, but also to honour those who are no longer here and to nurture those around her.
Mi hijo dice que bailo en la cocina speaks through Pilar's voice, along with her husband Alfonso’s, and through many others who make up her family. With the intention of capturing that intimate affection passed down through generations, we unearth memories, revisit photo albums, and trace the threads of connection that give meaning to the present.
Pilar is strength and tenderness. She is her typewriter, her music, her knack for always having snacks at hand, and her sharp sense of humour. Her orchids and her pots. She is spark, comfort, and sustenance.
This book is a mosaic of biographical stories tied together by 45 inherited and owned recipes—memories that speak of the women who came before, their resilience, and the traditions they carried.
