Recetario para la memoria (Sinaloa)
Zahara Gómez Lucini, Las Rastreadoras del Fuerte
In Mexico, forced disappearances have become a pressing issue due to the government's failed anti-drug policies, resulting in a staggering number of 61,637 victims. In response to the authorities' lack of action, civil society has mobilized, particularly groups of women who courageously traverse the country in search of their missing loved ones and uncovering hidden mass graves along the way.
Amidst this struggle for justice and remembrance, the act of cooking takes on a profound significance. Social gatherings and shared meals become poignant moments of connection and resilience, as the flavours and aromas of homemade dishes preserve memories and cultural identity.
Recetario para la Memoria is a gastronomic, photographic, and social project that honours these resilient women and their tireless search for justice. By shedding light on their stories through the lens of food, the project not only raises awareness but also supports the cause, with 50% of the book's proceeds going towards aiding the efforts of Las Rastreadoras del Fuerte dedicated to finding the missing.
